One of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional colleges – Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Graduate Studies – the OU Health Sciences Center serves approximately 4,000 students in more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs on campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
Students and residents receive clinical training at on-site institutions, including the OU Medical Center, The Children’s Hospital and Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition, affiliate training programs are maintained at hospitals and clinics throughout the state.
The OUHSC strategic plan for research targets and builds upon existing research and clinical strengths to achieve a healthier future and vigorous economy for Oklahoma. The key areas of research targeted are cancer, diabetes, neuroscience/vision and infectious diseases/immunology. The OUHSC already had a solid core of basic and clinical researchers in these four areas, plus the largest biomedical infrastructure in the state. Through recruitment, the OUHSC continues to grow its ranks of top researchers.
The Stephenson Cancer Center is the largest public-private biosciences initiative in state history, and is Oklahoma’s only comprehensive academic cancer center. The Cancer Center has become a nationally recognized leader in research and patient care, and Oklahomans no longer need to travel out of state to receive all-inclusive state-of-the-art care. The new 210,000-square-foot building is designed to meet the medical, emotional and practical needs of patients and their families.
Harold Hamm Diabetes Center is one of the top diabetes centers in the world for adults and children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and home to one of the largest group of diabetes researchers in the word. With operations at the center’s facilities on OU’s Oklahoma City and Tulsa campuses, as well as affiliated sites across the region, the center engages in novel research aimed at progress toward a cure for diabetes and its complications, providing improved patient care, and preventing the spread of diabetes through education and early detection.
Research at the OU Health Sciences Center has led to the development of several Oklahoma companies, including Caisson Biotech, which just entered into a development and license agreement with Novo Nordisk, representing a total deal value of potentially $100 million, as well as Altheus, Biolytx, Inoveon, Nantiox, Pure Protein, and Selexys, located in the University Research Park. Other companies at the Research Park such as Urocor, Charlesson and Genzym have had or continue to have close association with active research programs at the OU Health Sciences Center. The research enterprise at the OU Health Sciences Center also provides training for undergraduate and graduate students who will continuing economic growth in the state.
This program consists of study of basic medicine, clinical medicine and preventive medicine and requires the students of 1-year clinical training. Students who pass the graduation exam (including exam on medical knowledge and exam on clinical skills) will be granted the bachelor’s degree of medicine. The program aims at producing clinicians who have sound professional integrity, solid ground of basic medicine and systematic knowledge of clinical medicine and have acquired basic clinical skills as well as the ability to deal with problems in clinical settings.
The students should complete 203.5 credits, among which premed pubic courses are 26.5 credits, basic medical courses 48.5 credits and clinical medical courses 54.5 credits. The clinical rotation makes 74 credits.

Tongji University (TONGJI), founded in 1907 is directly under the MOE and listed as a key university in “211 Project” and “985 Project”. It is honored as the cradle of scientists, entrepreneurs, medical experts and engineers, enjoying the reputation of “North Tsinghua, South Tongji”.
Established as a medical school by a German doctor, Tongji University has developed into a leading comprehensive university and maintains close contact with Germany and European countries especially in medicine teaching and research. The university is situated in Shanghai, composed of 4 campuses occupying 635 acres and registers over 50,000 students, including 19,800 undergraduates and 3,000 international students.
With a history of over 100 years, medicine is the first discipline in Tongji University. Currently, the Medical School owns a college of basic medical science, a college of preventive medicine (to be constructed) and five affiliated hospitals. It also has the “WHO Prenatal Care Cooperation Center”, 2 municipal key disciplines, 3 municipal key specialties, 2 clinical medicine centers, prenatal diagnosis center, premature care center and the tuberculosis (lung) key laboratory of Shanghai.
The school has a faculty of 157 teachers, among which 52 are professors or associate professors.
There are a total of 884 undergraduate students and 392 graduate students. The Medical School upholds the conception of “elite education” and “human-oriented education”.
To strengthen the academic power and accelerate the international cooperation, in addition to the steady cooperative relationship with Germany, the Medical School also has entered partnership with University of Leipzig, University of Phillip-Marburg, and has reached agreement with Paris V, University of Ulm, University of Leipzig and University of Phillip-Marburg on student exchange. Presently, the undergraduate student exchange program is being carried out.
American Cardiology College (ACC) is also a major partner of the Medical School. In three consecutive years since 2004, ACC and the Medical School have co-organized three high-level cardiology workshops.
Tongji University began recruiting foreign students since the 1950s. It is one of the first universities that accept foreign students in China. Currently, the international students at Tongji are from over 100 countries and regions such as Thailand, Germany, North Korea, the U.S.A., Britain, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Yemen, Switzerland, South Korea, Denmark, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Turkey, Italy, Vietnam, Pakistan, Brazil, Columbia, Netherlands, Mali, Mauritius and Mongolia etc.
The MBBS program in Tongji University will be open for international students in 2012 and it has been announced as the qualified university to offer MBBS program in English.
Tongji University is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, HPCSA, SCHS etc.
The duration of the internship is one year (at least 48 weeks). The location and tuition fee for the internship is to be determined. Tongji University has 5 affiliated hospitals: Tongji hospital, Shanghai No. 10 People’s Hospital, East Hospital, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, and Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital. They are all hospitals of top level and have 4,443 beds altogether.
And, students have to take the final examination on Theory Test and Clinical Evaluation in Tongji University before graduation.
After obtaining MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A MBBS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. Except this, one can also start his own clinic or pursue study for master’s degree.

Please upload photocopies of required application materials according to the university’s admissions criteria.
All the materials should be MS-Word (.doc), Adobe PDF (.pdf) documents, image files (.gif, .jpg), or compression files (.rar, .zip). Each file cannot exceed 8 MB (megabytes)
4. Make payment
Students who choose Western Union or Bank transfer as their payment method need to upload the payment receipt after you wire the money at the post office or bank.
5. Submit application
Please submit your application once the application fee is confirmed by Roots Education. To submit your application, please access My Roots Education-> My Applications by logging in Roots Education, click ‘Continue’ at ‘Application Status’ column, and go to the ‘Submit Application’ section. You will see a big ‘Submit’ button. Click the button and your application will be sent directly to the university.
Once you’ve submitted your application, please wait 2-4 weeks for the university to process your application. Once the university has made a decision, Roots Education will notify you by email. You can also track your application status by logging into your Roots Education account.
The steps for ‘Apply via Email’ are as follows:
1. Choose a MBBS program；
2. Click “Apply via Email” to download the fillable application form and documents;
3. Open forms in MS Word and fill in required information electronically, please make sure the information is accurate and correct to receive your JW 202 form;
4. Send us the completed form and other required application materials;
5. Pay the Application Fee and Roots Education Processing Fee, keep the receipt;
6. Send us the copy of receipt, and the school will process your application once receiving your bank receipt;
7. Check your application process via email periodically, and track with your admission status;
8. Wait for your admission notice from Roots Education within 5 workdays, and the JW 202 form will send to you in 2-6 weeks;
